The story
One of the Ribatejo's most productive forces, the Adega Cooperativa de Almeirim was founded in 1958 and has grown to manage around 2,000 hectares of vines across the flat, alluvial plains and charneca heathland of the Tejo region. Producing an extraordinary 20 million litres annually, the cooperative is one of the most efficiently equipped wineries in Portugal, with modern temperature-controlled fermentation and barrel-ageing capacity in French and American oak. Their prized A.C.A. Aguardente Vínica Velha — a 20-year-old grape brandy of remarkable elegance — shows that Almeirim's ambitions extend far beyond volume, into true artisanal territory.
